The 2026 Major League Baseball Home Run Derby delivered a dramatic finish at Citizens Bank Park on July 13. The event drew strong attention from fans.

In front of an energized Philadelphia crowd, St. Louis Cardinals rising star Jordan Walker won the Home Run Derby title. Walker earned a $1 million winner’s purse and became the first Cardinals player ever to win the Home Run Derby, edging out Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber 12–11 in the final.

A Swing-Based Battle: MLB’s New Format Revitalizes the Competition

This year's Home Run Derby marked a significant departure from the timed clock system used since 2015. Instead, MLB implemented a new swing-based format where batters were allocated a strict limit of 20 swings in the opening round, and 15 swings in the semifinals and finals.

The new format emphasized efficiency. If a player homered on his final swing of a round, he could keep swinging until he failed to homer again. Bryce Harper was eliminated in the first round.
